stv Selects ContentProbe for Programme, Teletext and Subtitle Compliance Recording
UK Broadcaster Installs Digital Automated Solution from IdeasUnlimited.tv

stv selected ContentProbe from IdeasUnlimited.tv for compliance recording of its four programme channels, plus Teletext and subtitles.  The broadcast leader, which relocated to state of the art premises in Glasgow's Pacific Quay, is to use four single-channel digital automated recorders to retain all transmitted content for 90 days in accordance with Ofcom regulations.

stv, the new name for Scottish TV and Grampian TV, is installed four ContentProbe recorders to eliminate the need for bulky, less reliable VHS tapes and lengthy labelling and archiving tasks.  In addition, the broadcaster plans to roll the system out to its Teletext and subtitled services.

Based on IdeasUnlimited.tv’s patented Media Fingerprinting technology, ContentProbe stores content internally and enables authorised users to browse transmitted content from their desktops.  They can then pinpoint the location of footage if requested by Ofcom, advertisers or another interested party.

“While compliance recording is of course essential from a legal perspective, it is also important for ensuring excellent service to viewers and advertisers alike,” says stv’s technical manager, Gary Welsh.  “Installing IdeasUnlimited.tv’s ContentProbe demonstrates stv’s brand values and a commitment to responsible, high-quality broadcasting.”

“stv', as a new broadcast brand, is already demonstrating its pioneering approach to broadcast business,” says IdeasUnlimited.tv managing director Glyn Powell-Evans.  “In addition to compulsory compliance recoding of core transmitted content, it is applying it voluntarily to additional aspects of the information it broadcasts.”
